(Harlan) Harlan Municipal Utilities CEO Ken Weber says HMU’ S wholesale prices for natural gas have jumped from $3.00 to $240.00 per dekatherm for the excess natural gas they have to buy at Market Prices.
Weber says it’s unclear what the price impact will be on HMU customers.
Weber says the price increase is driven by extreme demand and freeze up at wellheads feeding pipelines. One HMU’s wholesale Electric Suppliers (Southwest Power Pool) is experiencing transmission system interruptions due to continued increases in demand with Wind Farms “tripping off” due to freezing up.
As a result, Weber is requesting all HMU Customers conserve electricity and natural gas where possible as they attempt to avoid service interruptions.
Weber says customers with standby power capabilities should check the status if service interruption occurs or if they have to shed load or move to roll blackouts.
He says your cooperation is much appreciated as we work through these next 6-8 hours until the weather starts to mitigate.
