(Shenandoah) One person was killed and two others were injured in a semi vs. van accident in Page County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 7:44 a.m. today (Thursday) at Highway 2 and Highway 59. Jeanette Helen Carson, 46, of Clarinda, was transported to the Shenandoah Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Chester Lynn Johnson, 70, of Clarinda and a 12-year-old child were both transported to the Shenandoah Hospital for injuries.
According to the report, Chester Johnson was driving a 2018 Dodge Caravan westbound on Highway 2. Spencer Allyn Lauman, 31, of Coin, was driving a 1998 Peterbilt semi northbound on Highway 59 approaching the intersection. Chester Johnson did not stop at the stop sign and was struck by the semi in the intersection. The van spun around and Mrs. Carson was ejected. The semi rolled over onto its right side and slid into the northwest ditch. The van came to rest in the northeast ditch.
The accident remains under investigation.
