(Atlantic) Snowplows are clearing the roads this morning, and every year, there are some significant traffic issues involving snowplows. Those incidents include collisions or secondary issues involving visibility in connection with the plows.
Todd Waters, a snowplow operator for the Iowa Department of Transportation, says first and foremost, they are out there for the public’s safety.
Waters says the safest travel distance is around 10-car lengths.
Waters adds, motorists, can safely pass a snowplow. Operators will attempt to pull over at intersections when traffic is backing up behind them.
Waters says to find the latest road conditions in your area, download the app, Iowa 511. He says operators continually update their supervisor’s on the latest road conditions. The public can also access a snowplow on the website as well.
