(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved an engineering agreement with Snyder and Associates on Wednesday to renovate the west High School Parking lot. The total construction cost is close to $800,000.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says this project has been under consideration for several years. The district has poured around $30,000 worth of fresh concrete into this area over the past three years, strictly for maintenance.
“None of the parking lots are in good shape, but the one on the west side has been deteriorating each year,” stated Barber. “We’ve been talking about doing something over the past three years, knowing that something had to get done eventually and when would be the right time. So the Board decided to go ahead with this project this year, along with the entryway into the high school.”
The old concrete will be recycled to lower the cost of the project. The new surface will also end the maintenance costs as well.
Barber says this is an open bidding process, and he hopes a local concrete contractor will have an opportunity to do the work. The goal is to receive the bids by early March.
