(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines is forecasting accumulating snow this evening and into Saturday for southwest Iowa. Southwest, Central, and parts of eastern Iowa are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6:00 p.m. today to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Chad Hahn, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says a low-pressure system is currently moving through Nebraska with moisture spreading out ahead of this system into the southern portion of Iowa.
Hahn says the rain will turn over to all snow this evening and tomorrow, with snow accumulation primarily overnight and into Saturday. Hahn says the band of heavier snow will occur from southwest Iowa into the state’s northeastern part.
The storm system is expected to impact travel overnight into Saturday. Hahn says the snow will come to an end at midway on Saturday in Southwest Iowa.
