(Atlantic) The Atlantic Area Chamber Ambassadors met with members of SHIFT ATL Thursday morning for their official groundbreaking.
SHIFT ATL is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission to get more community-minded people involved in the economic development of Atlantic. The group purchased the old Downtowner building in 2019 and the plans are to turn the upper story into an Airbnb short-term rental type of unit; a two bedroom, one bathroom, open concept living area. The lower level will be used for commercial space and there will be some green space outside.
Jessie Shiels introduced their contractors for the project: Frazer Werts with Werts Construction is the general contractor, Camblin Mechanical will be doing HVAC and plumbing, Berg Electric is their electrician, and Green Acres is doing the outdoor patio space.
Frazer Werts said they are hoping to have the building done and ready to go in late Spring.
Shiels also announced that they have a commercial tenant; Stacey Ashton will be opening Elixir on 4th.
Shiels said fundraising continues. They will host a Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning and they are also selling bricks which will be on display as part of the outdoor patio. The cost is $100 for a 4” x 8” brick (3 lines of text) or $250 for an 8” x 8” brick (6 lines of text). For more information, visit SHIFT ATL’s Facebook page.
