(Area) The Cass County Conservation Board has launched a new program called Acorn Explorers.
Naturalist Lora Kanning says programs will be held monthly beginning in September.
“Our Acorn Explorers program is going to be geared towards children and families that are home right now. We are doing monthly virtual and in person programs. Each month there’s a new topic.”
The topic for September is Monarch Butterflies. The virtual program will be September 17th at 1:00 p.m. The in person program will be at 1 p.m. on September 24th at Cold Springs Park Campground Shelter.
“Programs are targeted for 5th grad and younger. Some of them are going to be more outside, weather permitting. Some will be inside once we get to the winter. This is a brand new program, just trying to catch some of those at home learners and help everyone out in this day and age.”
Batty for Bats is the program in October with Terrific Turkeys in November. Additional months include Trumpeter swans in January, Great Backyard Bird Count in February, Turtles in March, and Signs of Spring in April. You can pre-register and get information on how to join in virtually by contacting Kanning at 712-769-2372 or e-mailing lkanning@casscoia.us.
