(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK School Board has approved extending Wednesday’s as a distance learning day through the end of the first quarter.
This decision, which was made in a special meeting on Wednesday night, means students will not attend school on Wednesday’s through October 14th. Superintendent Trevor Miller says the board received input from teachers. “We had our teacher write letters so our school board had a good idea of the collaboration.”
Miller views this as a benefit to students that are physically attending classes. “It gives the kids a break from all the stress and anxiety. We have so many kids right now that are dealing with anxiety of always having a mask on or catching something.”
Miller also points out this is a day for teachers to connect with remote learners. “It allows our staff to work with our remote learners which we have about 20-25 students doing remote learning. It also gives us a chance to deep clean the buildings.”
Miller says the board was appreciative of the feedback from the teachers and most of the parents have been supportive of using Wednesday’s as a distance learning day.
