(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced immediate steps to slow the spread of COVID-19 among young adults in the state. The measures come on the heels of the most massive 24-hour increase in positive cases since the pandemic began.
Governor Reynolds signed a new Public Health Disaster Proclamation by closing all bars, taverns, breweries, and nightclubs in six counties where some of the most virus activity is occurring. Those counties include; Black Hawk, Dallas, Johnson, Linn, Polk, and Story. Restaurants selling alcohol in these six counties are permitted to remain open but must stop selling alcohol after 10:00 p.m. each night.
Reynolds says the increase in cases among young adults is also at a point where it’s becoming a workforce issue as well.
Governor Reynolds is calling on all Peace Officers in the state to assist with the enforcement of these measures, as well as those in the proclamation the Governor signed last week.
These actions go into effect this evening at 5:00 p.m. until September 20.
The Governor noted a 23% increase of all new positive cases statewide were among young adults ages 19 to 24.
