(State) Iowa’s early teal hunting season begins Tuesday, September 1st.
Bryan Hayes, with the Iowa DNR Office in Lewis, says it’s been restructured to match up with the migration and the season has been lengthened. Hayes describes the setting of waterfowl hunting dates as a complex formula.
“It involves the fish and wildlife service and it involves the flyway council so states can’t just act on their own. The restructured teal season allows for a two week season and this year’s dates run September 1st through September 16th.”
With the extension of the season it is now limited to teal only.
“Wood ducks are off limits, any local mallards that could be using the wetlands are off limits. You have to be able to identify teal and make sure that you abide by the regulations of the teal only season.”
Shooting hours are sunrise to sunset.
