(Atlantic) Some unforeseen challenges, such as a water problem at the southwest corner of the Trojan football field, pushed the renovation project weeks behind. Now construction crews are racing against the clock to have the ground ready for the Trojans home opener on September 18.
“We’ve had some bumps in the road, some unforeseen challenges that were out of people’s control,”
said Atlantic Athletic Director and Assistant Principal Andy Mitchell. “Construction crews rectified those issues, we’ve had good weather to help us through these things, and now we’re at the point where the public is going to see some progress.”
Mitchell says the construction work at the Trojan football field is starting to take shape. The bleachers are going up on the home side, and crews are beginning to construct the seating and steps. He says the press box will arrive soon, and then construction teams will begin work on the visitor’s side bleachers.
The Trojan football field renovation project includes; synthetic turf, one new concession stand, a new main entrance, expanded restrooms, and a four-lane non-competitive rubber track. The project also includes; new lighting, retaining walls, and a new scoreboard.
The football field renovation project is just part of the school district’s $9.5 million bond issue. In April 2019, school district patrons voted in favor of the $9.5 million bond issue to renovate Trojan Bowl, the baseball and softball fields, new synthetic turf, at the high school soccer field, new track surface, and new tennis courts at the high school. Also included in the project, was smoother access to the elementary and middle school buildings, completed before the 2019/2020 school year.
The project also includes new synthetic turf at the high school soccer field, a new track surface, and new tennis courts. This phase of the project will be completed by the spring of 2021.
