(Atlantic) A new ambulance service is up and running in Atlantic. The contract with Medivac expired on June 30th.
Atlantic City Administrator John Lund says the change came about with the intention to expand medical services, from feedback received from many area first responders and medical professionals.
Atlantic City Administrator John Lund says while the county was satisfied with Medivac’s service, the City understood a single-ambulance covering a county of 12,930 people over 565 square miles wouldn’t be sufficient.
The new contract with Cass County EMS falls into two agreements: The first is a 28E agreement between the City, County, and Cass County Memorial Hospital. The three entities will share in the funding equally. The City of Atlantic is the fiscal agent and collects the funding from the County and Cass County Health System.
The ambulance service agreement is the second part of the new service; the City contracts directly to Midwest Medical under the terms of the deal. The City is liable for an annual maximum of $241,828.90 to Cass County EMS. The figure kicks in if billings fail to hit the ambulance services anticipated numbers. The City budgeted for this amount in the fiscal year 2021 budget.
