(Cumberland) A fire caused damage to Schrier Auto Body and Restoration near Cumberland on Monday night.
Cumberland Fire Chief Brad Penton tells KSOM/KS95 News the call went out at around 7:46 p.m. of a fire alarm going off at Schrier Auto Body and Restoration just south of Cumberland. Mr. Schrier notified an employee Jeremy Hardisty, who is also on the Cumberland Fire Department. When Hardisty arrived, flames were shooting through one of the windows of the structure. “He told us to get down there quickly, and we went flying,” said Penton.
Penton said when they arrived, light smoke was seen coming from the overhead doors, and some flames were coming from inside the walk-in door and through a window. “We set our trucks up, drug the hoses out and made initial entry, and knocked the fire out quickly,” said Penton. “We got a good knockdown, and nobody got hurt, and the fire caused minimal damage.”
Penton says the fire’s cause came from a shorted out 220-volt plugin located above the trash can. Penton estimated the damage at around $25,000, which included heat damage to a 2020 Traverse parked inside the building.
Penton initially paged out the Massena, Corning, and Grant Departments, but eventually called them off.
