(Des Moines) There is a chance for severe weather in southwest Iowa later today.
Cory Martin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says the day started with some shower and thunderstorm activity across the southern half of the state.
“We’ll see how in the day that goes, that could be a fly in the ointment for severe weather later,” said Martin. “We think more wide-spread showers and thunderstorms will develop later this evening along a sagging cold front. Some of these storms could be strong too severe with a threat for damaging winds gusts and hail.”
Hot and humid weather is forecast for next week. A sharp high-pressure ridge will set up starting on Sunday, and a lot of moisture will flow northward, with dew points in the low 70’s, along with an intermittent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
