(Des Moines) There is a slight risk for severe weather across the area this evening.
Brad Small, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says the main threat is damaging winds and large hail. An isolated tornado is also possible. Small says the eastern half of Iowa will see considerable rainfall of what’s left of tropical storm Cristobol.
“It will be a decent day in southwest Iowa today, there will be some clouds around, but no precipitation for a while,” stated Small. “However, the system that brought severe weather to Nebraska and South Dakota overnight will move into the Missouri Valley and cross the river into Iowa. Folks in southwest Iowa need to keep an eye on the weather overnight. There is a slight risk for severe weather, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that might not extend farther to the northeast.”
According to the weather service, strong northwest winds will persist into tomorrow with gusts up to 35-to-45 miles per hour.
The forecast for the rest of the week features more seasonal like temperatures with sunny skies and highs in the lower 80’s, with lows in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s.
