(Oakland) Cole Chapin is the new head baseball coach at Riverside.
Chapin had a standout prep career at Treynor. He played his college ball at Morningside. He says, “Baseball is my passion and what I know the most about among the sports I’ve coached. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.”
His first season at the helm will feature a young Bulldog roster to work with. “We return all of our guys for the most part.” Due to COVID-19 rosters for all programs are up in the air. “Leadership wise from the small little bit we did before this, we have some guys like Jake Erickson, Wyatt Hough, and Ethan Reicks. Those are three guys coming back that I’m definitely going to rely on.”
Bringing a winning mindset will be a priority. Riverside didn’t play varsity baseball two years ago and last year went winless. Chapin’s formula will revolve around pitching and defense. “I’d like to put a pretty big focus on obviously pitching. At a small school you have to have almost everybody be able to throw and then defense, if you can pitch and play defense you’re going to be in a position to win no matter where you are at or who you are playing.”
The status of baseball and softball will be determined by June 1st.
