(Exira) Littlefield Park in Exira has opened back up for campers.
May 15th was the opening date for the Audubon County campground. Conservation Director Bruce Haag admits it felt good to see people return, “Just some sense of normalcy I guess. I’ll be curious to see how many people feel comfortable doing it and if there are going to be people that we would normally see that don’t show up. Nobody has a crystal ball so it’s going to be very interesting.”
Haag thought they might get more of a crowd than they’ve seen so far. “We opened up Wednesday at 5:00 and had 17 come in that evening. We had another six last night. I thought maybe more would come in, but the weather wasn’t quite cooperative either.”
A full list of updated protocols are available on their Facebook page. The biggest impact is with restrooms. “We are restricting to self contained camper units only. Tent campers will not be allowed. We do not have any bathrooms open at this time so there are no facilities open. It has to be a self contained with a factory installed bathroom.”
No more than ten people are allowed per campsite and no visitors are allowed. Haag says they are doing everything they can to make sure camping at Littlefield is a safe experience.
