Marvin Charles Darrington, son of Arthur and Izetta (Lapworth) Darrington, was born May 16, 1922, near Council Bluffs, Iowa. He died May 6, 2020, at the age of 97.
Marvin attended country school in Garner Township near Council Bluffs. He left school at the age of 13 to farm with his father. After his father’s death he took over the family farm. Marvin was united in marriage to Lois I. Dunblazier on June 16, 1946. Two sons, Don and Bruce, were born to this union. He lived on and farmed the family farm south of Weston, Iowa, until February 28, 1968, when the family moved to Griswold, Iowa, where Marvin continued farming until his retirement in 1987. Marvin was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau.
Although Marvin’s livelihood was farming, his passion was serving the Lord as a minister in the Community of Christ church. He was ordained to the ministry in 1953, and for many years served as pastor of the Underwood, Iowa, congregation. In 1968, when Marvin moved to Griswold, he continued his ministry in the Carson, Iowa, Community of Christ congregation, until failing health forced his ministerial retirement.
Marvin moved to the Griswold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in March of 2014.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lois, parents, grandson Chris Darrington and sister Joyce Glesmann.
He is survived by his sons Don (Susan) of Griswold, Iowa, and Bruce (Barbara) of Independence, Missouri, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Byron (Jan) Darrington and two sisters, Vera Beamer and Esther Darrington, many nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family and a memorial service at a later date. Memorials will be directed by the family.
