(Anita) We’re just two days away from our CAM vs Colo-NESCO Regional Final re-air on KSOM. The Cougars won big and made the state tourney for the first time since 1997-98.
Macy Ticknor was one of three seniors that started on that team. “I remember getting to the school and first of all I thought it was super cool to get to play at Valley and it was a lot different. Once the game started Sammi (Jahde) and Paige (McAfee) were both on fire with their three’s. Our whole team just clicked like we never had. I thought that was the best game we played ever. When I saw how far we were up at halftime I was really shocked, I didn’t think we’d play as good as we did.”
She recalls the staff at Valley mentioning they had to pull extra rows out to accommodate the size of the CAM crowd. The Cougars had a lot of talent that year, but getting to state also took a lot of hard work. “We did a lot of weight lifting every day and had quite a few open gyms as often as we could. During the season we had lots of early practices and late nights, but it ended up paying off at the end of the season.”
Ticknor says the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union did a great job of ensuring the experience at state was a memorable one. We’ll replay the 2019 regional final between CAM and Colo-NESCO at 6:00 p.m. Friday.
