(Orient) The Adair County Board of Supervisors discussed wind turbines and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) with officials from the City of Orient this morning.
Orient Mayor Matt Swanson told the Supervisors that they were originally planning for 25 to 30 wind towers being allotted to them for TIF funding and their understanding is they are only going to get 18.
The Supervisors had explained that the number 18 came up after having discussions with the City of Stuart on how many wind turbines they would allot them for TIF funding. Supervisor Matt Wedemeyer…
Supervisor Steve Shelley….
Orient City Councilman Gary Metzger…
Supervisor Jodie Hoadley said the City of Orient is in far more dire straits than some of the other communities.
After some lengthy discussion, a motion was made by Steve Shelley to settle on 18 towers for Orient. John Twombly seconded. The motion failed after a roll call vote (John Twombly – Yes, Steve Shelley – Yes, Matt Wedemeyer – No, Jodie Hoadley – No, Dave Homan – No). Matt Wedemeyer then made a motion to allow Orient to TIF turbines within their two-mile zone. The motion passed 3 to 2 (Hoadley – Yes, Wedemeyer – Yes, Shelley – No, Homan – Yes, Twombly – No).
The Supervisors also unanimously passed a motion that the agreement between Orient and Adair County on these 30 wind turbines is maxed out at 80-percent borrowing power.
