2019 Spring Sports
Track
Nodaway Valley wasn’t far off from a state championship. The Wolverines finished 4th in Class 1A, but just a few points separated the top four teams. Nodaway Valley sent seven events to the blue oval and medaled in six of them. They were Pride of Iowa champs, winning five events at conference. Maddax Devault (200) Reagan Weinheimer (400), and Lexi Shike (100M Hurdles) all won individual titles while the 4X100 and Spring Medley Relays were conference champions. The 4X100 of Jena Yonker, Lexi Shike, Reagan Weinheimer, and Maddax DeVault competed at the Drake Relays.

Golf
Megan Russell was the team’s leader with a 58.3 stroke average per nine holes. One of Russell’s best outings came at the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament where she shot a 105 to place 3rd. Several others showed consistent improvement throughout the year. Cadee Firch, Paisley Kintigh, and Kenni Schaefer competed in all of their varsity duals while Corinne Bond was a varsity regular and Madisen Van Otterloo saw occasional action.
Soccer (Shared Program with ACGC and West Central Valley)
The Valley Girls got off to a hot start with three wins in their first four outings and posted a record of 9-7. Meredith Marks and Abigail Speichinger combined for the bulk of the team’s offense with 27 of the team’s 46 goals. Marks had 15 and Speichinger scored 12. Chloie Otto led the team in saves with 85.
2019 Summer Sports
Softball
Nodaway Valley compiled a win-loss mark of 11-17. A majority of their wins came in high scoring games as they combined for 28 runs in their two runs over Orient-Macksburg and scored 14 in a season opening victory against Stanton. Alyssa Davis was tied for 4th in the Pride of Iowa Conference in home runs and Reagan Weinheimer led the league in steals. The team didn’t have a single senior.

2019 Fall Sports
Volleyball
Volleyball had their best season in recent memory with a 20-7 record. They were one win away from a state tournament appearance as they lost to Van Buren in a Regional Final. They were the conference runner-up with a 5-2 mark against Pride of Iowa Conference Teams. Corinne Bond and Natalie Younker each earned All-District honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Bond became the program’s all-time leader in blocks and still has her senior season ahead of her. Yonker’s 5.36 digs per set were tied for 3rd most in Class 2A. Bond, Yonker, and Lexi Shike were All-Conference selections.

Cross Country
Sophia Broers and Reagan Weinheimer each had especially impressive season and the supporting cast was solid too as the Wolverines went to state as a team. They placed 8th in Fort Dodge. It was their first state qualification as a team in ten years. They edged Earlham by one point at the State Qualifying Meet in Mount Ayr to punch their ticket. Broers and Weinheimer finished 4th and 5th, respectively at the State Qualifying Meet. Lily Day, Abby Engels, and Mallory Kuhns were all in the top 30 at Mount Ayr. Nodaway Valley won the Pride of Iowa Meet in dominant fashion with a team score of 24. Broers was the conference champ with Weinheimer 3rd, Day 4th, Kuhns 6th, and Erin Ford 11th.

Bowling
Nodaway Valley had a 1,837.7 average match score and a 13-4 record. Abby Christensen had the top individual average on the team at 287.2 with a high series of 361. Brenna Bruns averaged 259 with Caidynce Schwartz, Morgan Brown, Riley McCall, and Gracie Chafe rounding out the lineup.
Basketball
The team took a giant step forward and became conference champs for the first time since 2012. They finished the year at 20-3 with their only losses being to Mount Ayr, Panorama, and AHSTW. A 61-46 win at Mount Ayr on February 4th avenged their only conference setback and opened the door for them in the race for the conference title which they eventually shared with the Raiderettes. Sophomore Maddax DeVault earned All-District recognition from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. She was the 2nd leading scorer in the Pride of Iowa Conference.
