(Massena) One last season of college football is left for CAM graduate Jarod McKee at Waldorf.
McKee was a 2nd teamer at linebacker last season and played some special teams. He eyes a starting role as a senior. “I’m fairly confident, but I can’t be content with where I’m at. Competition breeds excellence and I have to keep grinding and keep pushing myself.
McKee notes playing football at the next level has given him a well-rounded college experience and he’s learned more about football in the last couple of years than he ever thought he would. He’s had three different head coaches and has tried out several positions. “I was a tight end and then got moved to slot receiver my first year. After the new coaching staff came I got switched to running back and fullback. I moved to linebacker and found a good place there. I love playing linebacker especially in our new 3-4 defense which is free-flowing.”
Waldorf went 2-8 in McKee’s first year, but has gone 20-11 since then. He refers to it as being like the Drake song Started From The Bottom. “We were ranked the very last team in the nation for NAIA and now we are preseason top 25. We’ve been through it all. A lot of us have been together for four years and we just have to keep building. We are capable of winning conference and making a playoff run. We just have to bring it all together.”
McKee admits adjusting to the college level was a real eye opener, but he stuck with it and last year saw the most reps he’s ever had. The team finished as the conference runner-up in each of the last two years.
