(Exira) Exira-EHK’s Terry Weisenborn joins KSOM/KS95.7 Sport’s “Why I Coach” podcast this week.
Fulfilling is one word he’d likely use to describe his career, especially when talking about his current role as the Spartan’s head cross country coach. “Just seeing kids knowing they have the opportunity to succeed and this is a tough sport. People think you just go out and run, but there is strategy involved and kids fulfill what you have tried to get across to them.”
Weisenborn has been involved with volleyball, cross country, football, track, and basketball. In his younger days he even double dipped with two sports in one season. “I’ve done assistant football and cross country at the same time. That was an adventure doing cross country in the morning usually and football after school and then trying to get to whatever contests we were having.”
He’s in his 30th year in the school district with the first 20 as Exira and the last 10 as Exira-EHK. Being a part of athlete’s achievements is one of the things that keeps him going after all these years. “Anytime you see athletes being successful, and I’ve had that at every level. It’s not just kids getting to the state meet or winning the conference. It’s improving their time or scoring more points or doing something that they’ve been working on throughout the season.”
