(Atlantic) Unseasonably warm temperatures swept through the state on Tuesday. The mercury topped out at 85-degrees in Atlantic breaking the old record of 83-degrees set in 1931. Des Moines set a new record of 83-degrees, breaking the old record of 80-degrees set in 1893 and 1991.
“It was kind of low-hanging fruit for a high temperature on April 7,” said Kenny Podrazik with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, adding the weather is about to change. “A cold front is moving through today. This morning should be pleasant before the cold front moves through this afternoon. Temperatures will dip to around freezing overnight and blustery on Thursday, with wind gusts of 30-40 miles per hour for much of the afternoon.”
Cold temperatures are expected to settle in next week starting on Sunday with highs in the low to mid 40’s and lows in the mid-20’s, each day through Wednesday.
