(Elk Horn) Tom Petersen brings 14 years of head coaching experience with him to his new role as head baseball coach at Exira-EHK.
Petersen calls baseball his first love, but hadn’t coached the sport at the high school level since 2010. Now that two of his sons are on the team he’s taken over following the resignation of Trevor Miller. Petersen says, “I just want the kids to improve and build on somethings from where they were a year ago. The kids love the game as do I. It has been in our family for a lot of years and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Petersen has built high caliber programs in football and girls basketball at Exira-EHK. He’ll bring with him to the baseball program some big expectations. Communication and fundamentals are two top priorities for Petersen as he takes the helm. He’s excited to get back into baseball which he recalls is the first sport he ever coached. “That’s what kind of got me into the coaching profession to be honest. I had kids growing up and wanted to be with them through the little league program, but now it’s that time.”
The team has only senior, but a lot of the sophomores and juniors have seen multiple years of varsity action. May 4th is the tentative first day of practice.
