(Corning) Griswold alum Trevor Gipple has a wealth of experiences as a softball coach and will now get his first opportunity to become a head coach the high school level.
After spending last year as an assistant at ACGC, Gipple landed the head coaching job at SW Valley. “I kind of wanted to make a move to a head role and was looking for something a little closer to home. It’s a program that definitely had potential. I had a great interview and they hired me.”
Gipple got active in coaching in 2015 when his daughter was in t-ball and then transitioned into a role with the Western Iowa Girls Softball League. “I really fell in love with communicating with players and having someone under your wing. We developed Southwest Iowa Swarm which is like a club team, but it’s inexpensive and we aren’t in it for money.” Gipple says he’s also blessed with his private hitting instructions. He has over 50 kids from all over Southwest Iowa.
Gipple had a lot of positive influences on his athletic career starting from a young age and continuing through his high school days. “Gary Bergstrom was probably the greatest motivator I’ve ever seen in my life. Jan Harris is Mr. Intensity and knew how to fire kids up and demand your best. Playing under coach Chad Rodgers I learned a lot from him and I’ve reached out to him and tried to take some of his old packets and tried to make them my own with my team.”
