(Atlantic) Governor Kim Reynolds on Thursday called on Iowa Schools to provide continuous learning opportunities for their students following the announcement of extended school closures through April 30.
School Districts face three options moving forward, no continuous learning, voluntary education enrichment opportunities, and required educational services. School districts now must decide on a choice from April 13 to April 30.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says they sent out a survey to parents last week to find out what households had access to the internet.
Barber says in addition to that packets will be sent to students without access to the internet or devices. He says the district is working through some other details, as they move forward through this situation. The other component of the voluntary piece is the teachers must stay in constant contact with the students and their parents throughout the process from April 13 to April 30.
Barber says 554 families responded to the survey, and building principals have contacted those families that didn’t respond to the study.
Districts choosing not to offer continuous learning will have to make up those missed days.
