(Des Moines) Motorists in parts of the southwest, west-central, and northwest and north-central Iowa are expected to see some icy travel on Friday.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, for the southwest counties of Mills, Pottawattamie, Cass, Guthrie, Audubon, Shelby and Harrison counties, and Monona, Crawford, and Carroll counties in west-central Iowa.
Forecasters say rain will change to freezing rain tonight into Friday morning over the northwest, west-central, and north-central Iowa. The transition will begin in far northwest Iowa later this evening and progress eastward to the I-35 corridor over north-central Iowa by mid-morning Friday.
Ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are possible and this may cause hazardous driving conditions as untreated roadways become slick. The precipitation, which may end as light snow with just a dusting expected, will come to an end from west to east from late Friday morning into early Friday evening.
