(Norwalk) One week ago the Norwalk boys basketball team was holding up the Class 3A State Championship trophy. One of the assistant coaches for the Warriors is a Cumberland-Massena graduate.
Aaron Pelzer has been on the Norwalk staff since the early 2000’s. He describes the state title as one of the most awesome coaching experiences he’s had, but above all else it was a relief to get the job done. “A lot was expected and we were ranked really highly all season. It’s a long season and that pressure wears on you a little bit, but I’m absolutely thrilled for the kids that put in all the time and sacrifice. It’s something that I know we’ll never forget and something you have to really, really cherish because those opportunities don’t come around all that often.”
Pelzer was proud to be a part of a program that conducted itself in a championship manner all season long. “We talked to our kids all the time about how no matter what happened this year that going into the state championship game it didn’t matter if we won or lost. We said we had already won because of the way we treated each others, represented our school and community, and sacrifices we had learned to make for the betterment of something bigger than yourself.”
