(Villisca) According to the Montgomery County Emergency Management Office, residents of the Villisca Good Samaritan Nursing Home have been allowed to return following an evacuation early Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1:28 p.m. Montgomery County Communications received a 911 call from the nursing home about a possible gas leak. Further investigation revealed the source of the odor was from an outdoor bulk tank that was being filled by a vendor who had a mechanical failure. A small amount of product drifted into the atmosphere and entered the air handling system at the nursing home. Villisca Fire and Alliant Energy cleared the nursing home and found no hazards.
38 residents and 17 staff members were evacuated to the Villisca Wellness Center as a precaution. One resident was treated on scene by Villisca EMS for a small abrasion. One hour after the 911 call was made they were given the all clear to return.
