AHSTW is 6-1 in games decided by ten points or less this season. The Viking boys squeaked out two tight conference games last week before drilling Missouri Valley 80-54 on Tuesday.
Head coach GG Harris simply says his team is resilient. “It isn’t always pretty and the other teams have been outplaying us at times, but if the clock is ticking and the horn hasn’t gone yet we feel that we have a chance.” Harris adds, “When we can get five to eight guys clicking we can be really special.”
Clayton Akers was sure clicking in the team’s last outing. The senior buried 7/9 three-point shots and scored 30 points at Missouri Valley. Akers averages 12.5 points per game. The squad’s leading scorer is Raydden Grobe at 14.8 points per night.
Friday night the Vikings host Logan-Magnolia in a game that will air on 96.5 FM KSOM and stream at www.westerniowatoday.com. AHSTW enters at 14-2 while the Panthers are 6-9. AHSTW won the first meeting 60-58. Coach Harris says the Panthers play a very tough zone. Logan-Magnolia started the year at 4-2, but have won only twice since mid-December. The Panthers are led by Tre Melby and Dylan Cunard who each average 12 points per game.
