(Atlantic) Two new Atlantic City Council members were sworn into office. Jim Behrens and Grace Garrett took the Oath of Office at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.
Grace Garrett was elected in November to serve as one of the two City Councilpersons at-large.
Garrett moved to Atlantic two-and-a-half years ago. She has never run for office.
In a previous interview, Garrett said, “I feel I must be a good listener and represent the people. Because at the end of the day most of us all want the same thing. We want a safe town; we want more jobs, restaurants and economic development.
“If I can make a good decision today to make Atlantic a better place in the future, that’s what I’m all about.”
Garrett says she will continue to read and educate herself on the City ordinances between now and when she takes office on January 1, 2020. She says this will help her make the right decisions when these votes come into play, and help determine what her role will be on the Council.
“So if I can balance that, I feel I’ve done my part to lead well, to be a team player, and know when and how to delegate,” said Garrett. “And help move us forward in a good sense so that we can make good choices to make Atlantic the best place to call home.”
Garrett narrowly defeated incumbent Dana Halder 517-509 to earn the seat.
Additionally, Jim Behrens was uncontested in November to represent Atlantic’s, First Ward.
Garrett and Behrens’s terms begin on January 1, 2020. The next meeting of the Atlantic City Council is scheduled for January 15, 2020.
