(Atlantic) A Solon, Iowa man faces numerous charges following a high-speed chase through Atlantic, Wiota, Anita and Interstate 80 through Adair and Guthrie counties.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year old Kyle Zenisek is charged with Eluding, OWI 1st Offense, 5th Degree Theft, and multiple traffic infractions including excessive speed, reckless driving and other offenses. Zenisek is being held in the Cass County Jail.
According to the press release; the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle in the ditch at the intersection of Highway 6 and Midway Road. The caller stated that the driver covered the license plate with mud and ran away from the scene.
When deputies arrived they discovered that the vehicle had been pulled out of the ditch and took off. Subsequently, deputies located the green 2006 Ford Freestyle and a traffic stop was attempted due to the license plates being covered with mud. The Ford fled from the Deputy and an Atlantic Police Department patrol car and led officers on a pursuit eastbound on White Pole Road. There was an unsuccessful attempt to disable the vehicle just south of Atlantic. At times the pursuit reached speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour. The pursuit continued eastbound onto Interstate 80 and ended in Guthrie County where a deputy successfully deployed stop sticks, disabling the vehicle near the 84-mile marker.
Zenisek was taken into custody without incident.
