(Harlan) The Harlan girls cross country team returns five of the seven runners who competed on last year’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Champion squad and a fourth-place finish at the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet.
The 4th rated Cyclones lost two top to runners to graduation, Lucy Borkowski and Abby Alberti, but return four seniors who all contributed last season. Those seniors include Liv Freund, Abi Albertson, Brecken Van Baale, and Olivia Anderson.
Harlan Head Coach Doug Renkly appreciated the balance of the squad, especially two-through seven.
Renkly says this year’s team may not be as deep, but they do return a solid core of runners and two promising runners underclassman.
Coach Renkly says he tries not to put too much pressure on the team, although he does verbalize goals and expectations for the squad. He says ultimately the team’s goals are his goals.
Harlan begins competition on Tuesday, August 25, at the Shenandoah.
