(Griswold) A light senior class last year means the Griswold volleyball team has a lot returning this season.
With all of the talent and experience that is back there’s a lot of excitement leading up to the 2020 campaign. “We are exited about the season and excited about the fact that we are returning a lot of talent and experience with six returning starters. We also have several girls that are pushing their teammates to be better and I think that’s a good thing for our team.”
Coach Rossell identifies some of the key personnel that’ll lead the way, especially at the net. “We are returning several starters. Kalainee Teaney at middle, Haylee Pennock, Mikala Pelzer, and Brenna Rossell all were big hitters for us last year and have improved and we are looking for their leadership as well. We have some up and coming ones as well-Ashlyn Brownlee, Josie Mundorf, Brooke Berg.”
In addition to all the hitters returning that coach Rossell listed, Haylee Pennock led the team in assists last year and Anna Kelley is back after posting 253 digs. Coach Rossell feels the team will be better defensively with a balanced attack at the net. “I’ve really seen a lot of improvement through camp week and the first week of practice on defense. I’m impressed with that. Serving is going to continue to be a strength for us. We have several strong offensive hitters and it’s going to give us versatility and allow us to be competitive in those tough matches.”
Amid the pandemic the team isn’t focusing so much on long term goals as they are on being the best team they can be every time out and taking things one game at a time. Coach Rossell feels they are capable of competing with every team in the Corner Conference.
