(Atlantic) Atlantic is coming off of a 14th place finish at the boys state cross country meet.
Gone from last year’s state meet qualifier are graduates Evan Brummer and Bradley Dennis, but Craig Alan Becker, Zane Berg, Drew Engler, Cooper Jipsen, and Ethan Williams return with several other prospects in the mix. Becker ran 23rd at state in 2019. Coach Dan Vargason says, “That’s a big returning core on the boys and we have a huge freshman number. We’re looking at double digit freshmen coming in. We went to camp about a week ago over in Norwalk and some of those freshmen boys competed. We have a lot of optimism in the program.”
Coach Vargason explains they get a lot out of the camp in Norwalk. “It’s a great time. We go for four days and three nights, staying in a cabin. We run once or twice a day and do some aqua jogging and cross training. The majority of the reason we go is to team bond. We took sixteen kids this year.”
Twenty-five runners make up the Atlantic boys cross country team.
