(Atlantic) Atlantic was ranked throughout most of last season in girls cross country and loses very little from their varsity lineup.
The Trojans return a very solid core for the 2020 season. Coach Dan Vargason says, “Out of our top five runners we have four back. We have a lot of top runner. We have some people that were out last year and worked hard and improved their times. We have some good freshman coming in. We are very excited about that.”
One of the highlights of the summer training was a four day camp in Norwalk. Aqua jogging was one of the experiences they were able to benefit from. “They put on a little floating device and they have a pond. We go out in the pond for 15-20 minutes and it’s running without the stress on your joints. We do one minute increments and then this year we had them run across the pond and back. It’s not super far, but it’s definitely taxing if you aren’t much of a swimmer.”
The list of runners capable of competing at a varsity level is long. “Taylor McCreedy is the top runner back, Ava Rush right here with her as our top two. It’s going to be fun to watch them compete this year. Behind them are Madi Botos and Addie DeArment, those two made up a solid core last year. Claire Pellett looks like she could step in and fill that role, but we have Laney Brosam and Claire Wiederstein and a lot of girls back from last season.”
Taylor McCreedy was Atlantic’s lone state participant last year and she placed 35th.
