(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board will decide at the July 8 meeting whether to purchase 350 chrome books for district students. If approved, every student in the district would have access to a computer that would satisfy the district’s return-to-learn plan.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says the school board is engaged in the district’s connectivity plan and access to devices. “We’re in the right spot after going 1:1 with our middle school, and we’ve had some computers available to our K-5 students,” said Barber. “We are about 350 computers short of having a device in every student’s hand. The required continuous learning plan forces the district to get to that level.”
The district had an opportunity to purchase these refurbished computers for $50,000. The school board will take action on July 8 to consider the proposal. Barber says Tech Director Roger Warne has done a great job exploring this type of computer. He feels comfortable the students can get four to six years of use out of these computers at the elementary level. “If we do have to go into a continuous learning environment, every student would have a device,” Barber said.
Barber says the funding would come from S.A.V.E. funds and C.A.R.E. dollars.
