(Harlan) School leaders continue work on the Harlan Community School District return-to-learn plan.
Schools Superintendent Lynn Johnson reported to the school board on Monday that these committees meet weekly. The options include remote learning, a blended plan with some students on-site, and others learning remotely during the live session. The third option is an in-person plan, which, according to survey results from the parents, is the plan wanted by the majority of the respondents to a recent survey sent out to parents and guardians. Lynn Johnson, says one of the questions in the study read if deemed safe to gather, would you be willing to send your child to school?.
Johnson says they will continue to evaluate and make sure the district can staff, which is also a big issue. Once all of the pieces are in place, they can start flushing out the plan.
Johnson foresees the release of additional guidelines.
In other activities, the school board approved the resignation of Bob Burton, bus driver, and approved contracts for; Marie Peters, Best Buddies Sponsor, Katie Arentston, half-time Middle School Stem Teacher, Brandi Eckles, K-5 Special Education Teacher, Lisa Olsen, half-time K-5 Special Education Teacher. The board also approved coaching contracts for; Thomas Kurtz, High School Assistant Bowling Coach, Whitney Hillgartner, High School Assistant Volleyball Coach, Dean Mosher, Middle School Football Coach, and Erin Sibald, Co-Dance Sponsor.
