(Pottawattamie Co.) In an effort to educate Pottawattamie County residents on the current status of COVID-19, Pottawattamie County Public Health is highlighting two data points. First is the slight uptick in the percentage of positive COVID-19 cases. The states COVID-19 dashboard shows the overall rate of individuals testing positive has increased slightly this week from 8% on Monday to 8.4% on Friday. The percent of individuals testing positive yesterday was 9.5%. The second data point to note is the number of local cases in the 18 to 40 age range. As of June 12th, nearly 44% of COVID-19 cases in Pottawattamie County are individuals in the 18 to 40 age range.
As businesses begin to open at full capacity and large gatherings begin to occur, please continue to protect yourself from COVID-19. Practice social distancing, wear a face covering in public, wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, and disinfect surfaces regularly. If you are sick, stay home. Even those who are mildly ill can spread the virus.
Today, PCPH reports 31 new COVID-19 cases. One individual is from Crescent, one is from Walnut, and 29 are from Council Bluffs. These individuals were tested between June 4 and June 10. 24 individuals are ages 18 to 40; four are 41 to 60; three are 61 to 80.
According to coronavirus.iowa.gov, 5,659 Pottawattamie County residents have been tested for COVID-19 and 473 were positive. Including epi-linked cases, PCPH reports a total of 523 COVID-19 cases.
As of today, 265 individuals have recovered, 223 are self-isolating, and six individuals are hospitalized. Based on PCPH contact tracing investigations, 147 cases are the result of community spread.
