(Anita) DeShawn Carr made multiple big plays in centerfield to help CAM qualify for the 2017 state baseball tournament. KSOM/KS95.7 Sports caught up with Carr ahead of Friday’s Classic Replay of the CAM vs St. Albert substate game.
Carr came up with late game heroics in both the district final and substate round. Against St. Albert he made a catch deep in centerfield to seal the game. “The first thing that went through my mind was ‘Did I really just catch this ball?’ and ‘Are we really going to state?'”
Another thing he remembers well about that night was being very nervous before the game. “I know I was. I was really nervous. Everyone talked about St. Albert being really good, but we thought we were pretty good too that year. I was really nervous going into that game.”
Carr cherished the opportunity to play at Principal Park for the state tourney. “That was a great, great experience. The greatest experience of my life probably. You don’t get that opportunity to play on a field that nice unless you’re on a really good team and I was that year. We all got to experience something a couple of steps higher than what we were used to.”
The CAM vs St. Albert replay starts at 6:00 on Friday.
