(Johnston) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds released the plan on Friday morning for leveraging the $1.25 billion Iowa received from the federal government.
The funds would pay for expenses due to COVID-19 not accounted for in the State budget as of March 27, when the cares act became law. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says the funds last from March 1 through December 31, 2020.
The Governor says $215 million goes toward relief for Iowa businesses and families, including the small business relief fund, which has helped more than 4,000 small business owners.
$100 million allocated to provide relief for Iowa farmers.
Other allocations include; $125 million to communities, $50 million for health care providers, $85 million to expand access to telehealth, telework, and telelearning. Another $125 million allocated for PPE, and overtime pay for front-line direct care employees and others.
Governor Reynolds says the State will save the remaining $550 million while monitoring the status of Iowa’s unemployment trust fund, and cover any additional COVID-9 expenses.
