(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK School Board has locked in a projected start date for the 2020-21 school year.
August 12th is the planned date to begin the next school year. The plan is pending state approval and would feature a balanced year with 89 days in one semester and 91 days in the other.
Superintendent Trevor Miller says the board also reviewed their audit report. “The only thing we got hit on was the segregation of duties which they always tell small schools you need more people to do different things, but in small schools we don’t have the budget for that so we do the best we can to make sure there is no embezzlement or anything like that.”
Student Fees for next year will have very few changes.
“Fees will be the same as the current years except for the dime raise for breakfast and lunch. We didn’t want to put any more financial burden on anyone so we just left them the same and we’ll re-evaluate them the following year.”
A public hearing has been set for next month on a resolution for the board to approve the instructional support levy which comes up for renewal every five years. Anna Martin has been hired as a new spanish teacher. Courtney Peppers has been hired as assistant softball coach.
