(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council passed a resolution requiring facemasks worn inside city-owned buildings. The Council agreed to the new Policy at Wednesday’s virtual City Council meeting.
The Atlantic Public Library is opening some of its services this month. It is concerned about the health and safety of both themselves and their patrons. According to the State Library Association, the Library Board itself cannot require patrons in the Library to wear masks. However, they stated that if the City Council passed a resolution requiring masks for those entering the City-owned buildings, it would apply to the Library.
The Policy applies only to the interior of City-owned buildings. It doesn’t apply to parks, trails, and other outdoor City-owned grounds. There is no citation or penalty for failure to wear a mask. City Departments will be free to respond to employees or members of the public refusing to follow this Policy in a manner deemed appropriate for the situation. The resolution will remain in effect only if the City Council feels it necessary to protect employees and the public.
In other business, the City Council agreed to spend $49,080.00 to address an ongoing stormwater management issue impacting the Atlantic Golf and Country Club. The Council approved an engineering study with Snyder and Associates this past November. The investigation resulted in four options: (1). Widen Palm Street with a Box Culvert Extension for $294,150.00. (2). 42-inch storm sewer at Country Club Drive for $391,100 (3). Bioswale at Country Club Drive, for $315,058, and (4). A subsurface Drain Tile for $49,080. The Council chose to exercise the fourth option.
The Council also awarded an earthmoving contract to Chris Heuton, for a dry stormwater basin at Country Oaks. Heutons low bid was $21,520.00, which included $6,500 for seeding. Meanwhile, the City agreed to do the sowing, so Heuton erased the seeding cost off the bid, which dropped it to $15,000.
The Council also approved the following reappointments. Lloyd Munson, Board of Adjustment, and Doug Bierbaum, Planning and Zoning Commission. In addition to that, the Council appointed Rich Tupper to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
