(Audubon) The city of Audubon has received a big financial boost to help upgrade a bridge. The Iowa Department of Transportation will grant the city up to $1 million to replace the bridge at the fairgrounds
Mayor Barb Jacobsen says routine inspections rate the bridges based on need.
“That fairgrounds bridge finally hit the mark and was accepted to be worked on. The city has to provide funds for engineering, architectural drawing, and a few things like that. Then the state will actually build the bridge for up to a million bucks.”
Jacobsen describes the bridge as needing an upgrade for a long time.
“I’ve been in town 13 years and I think it’s been at least since then. The city kept fixing it a little bit here and there as needed.” She adds, “We have a lot of heavy traffic that uses that bridge as well as all of our fair traffic, so it has needed it for many, many, many years.”
The council also found out during their meeting this week they’ve been approved to receive grant money to fix their dam.
