(Elk Horn) Staff at the Exira-EHK School District will continue to be paid while school is not in session.
The school board on Monday night passed a measure to pay certified staff through the end of the school year. Superintendent Trevor Miller says, “We are going to pay our staff all the way through the closure April 30th, but if it gets extended all of our staff will have their contracts paid for the rest of the school year. I know with our para’s and nutrition staff they were worried about getting furloughed or what was going to happen, but that’s one less thing they have to worry about.”
The board also finalized the budget and Miller reports a drop in the property tax rate down to $12.00. “We were able to drop by four cents this year so that’ll help a little bit. At least it is not going up. Anytime you can drop a little bit it helps.” Miller comments on why the rate was able to go down. “Our big thing is in 2019 we had the bond so that was a high number. Everything else was pretty consistent. For a small district our financials are are looking really good now.”
Also on Monday the board approved an AEA Purchasing Contract for Food Service Items. Amanda Nelson has been approved as a school based interventionist. She’s been with the district two days per week in the past, but will increase that to four days a week next year.
