(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is waiting until the end of the week to decide whether or not to extend the states’ current guidelines in the fight against COVID-19. President Trump, on Sunday, announced he is extending the social distancing until April 30.
Governor Reynolds appearing at Monday’s’ press conference, is standing by an earlier statement to wait until the end of this week to make a decision. The Governor also wants to review the President’s formal guidelines due out at the end of the week.
“We had a conference call with the President and Vice-President and talked about some of the guidelines and surveillance to be released,” said Reynolds. “The formal report will include some of the matrix we can use to make sure we’re consistent and using the right data and how we plan to move forward with this.”
The Iowa Department of Public Health confirmed today 88 additional positive tests for COVID-19, bringing the total to 424 reported positive cases scattered throughout 56 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Additionally, the IDPH reported 1,149 negative cases, 51 hospitalized, and 34 individuals that have recovered from the virus. The report also included two more deaths bringing the total of fatalities to 6.
Audubon, Crawford, and Guthrie Counties each reported their first positive case. Shelby County reported two additional positive cases bringing the counties total to three.
The positive cases in Audubon and Crawford counties are older adults 61-80 years old. The Guthrie County resident infected is 41-60 years of age. The two additional positive tests in Shelby County affects one individual between the ages of 18-40, and an older adult, 61-80 years old.
