(Council) The Pottawattamie County Public Health Department, in a press release on Saturday, reported the second presumptive positive case of COVID-19.
Testing done at the University of Nebraska Medical Center indicated the second case on Friday, March 20. This case is a man between 41-60 years of age with existing medical conditions and no recent travel. He is currently in the ICU at UNMC.
Pottawattamie County Public Health has been conducting the tracking investigation for this case and is in communication with the Iowa Department of Public Health. The man was at the DaVita Dialysis Clinic at 300 West Broadway Suite 150, in Council Bluffs on March 16 while symptomatic. DeVita Dialysis had implemented protocols requiring all patients and employees to wear masks inside the clinic before the visit from this patient. Therefore Pottawattamie County Public Health is considering it a low-risk exposure to others and is following up with the location. Public Health is recommending anyone who visited DaVita Dialysis on March 16 should call the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Agency COVID-19 Call Center at 712-8905368 or 712890-5369.
The first possible positive COVID-19 case was a woman between 41-60 years old and is currently under voluntary quarantine with some remaining symptoms. She will be released from home quarantine when she is symptom-free for three days.
Pottawattamie County Health Officials say this is a rapidly evolving situation, and Public Health recommends people stay home as often as possible, increase social distancing efforts, and practice excellent hygiene and disinfectant practices. The goal is to prevent a massive spike in the number of people getting sick simultaneously and flatten the curve of infection.
