(Greenfield) The Iowa Department of Public Health on Tuesday evening reported a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Adair County.
Stephanie Claussen, Adair County Community Health and Emergency preparedness Coordinator, says this new case doesn’t necessarily change the protection measures already in place knowing one would eventually show up in the County.
As far as the confirmed case in Adair County, no more information will be released unless county health providers feel their community is at risk or exposure. “Then, we will certainly release that information and let those people know,” said Claussen. “Once we know, we’ll contact those people that may have been close to this case and provide them with recommendations on what they need to do or whether they need testing. We do expect more cases and we will let people know if they need to take additional measures.”
The Adair County Hospital System and Guthrie County Hospital are only providing public health testing for Coronavirus following the Iowa Department of Public Health guidelines for testing. Patients will be eligible for testing if they meet one of the following criteria:
*Hospitalized patients with fever and respiratory failure and no alternate diagnosis.
*Hospitalized older adults (60 years of age) with fever or respiratory symptoms (cough, difficulty breathing) and chronic medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, immunosuppressive medications, chronic lung disease, or chronic kidney disease).
*Any persons with a history of international travel to a country with a level 3 CDC travel health warning (cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html) or have taken an international cruise in the 14 days before becoming ill with fever and respiratory symptoms (cough, difficulty breathing) and no alternate diagnosis.
