(Atlantic) Atlantic Community Schools Superintendent Steve Barber sent a memo this week to staff, parents, and guardians addressing COVID-19. He says the message remains the same as when flu spread through the school district; wash hands, wipe down surfaces, don’t share cups, and stay home if you’re not feeling well.
Barber says maintenance crews continue to disinfect all the buildings with a fogger. “The district’s maintenance crew will be spraying the buildings twice a week over the next couple of weeks,” said Barber. “We have spring break coming up, which gives us a reprieve, and keep our buildings disinfected.”
Barber says the CDC has pinpointed some countries under level three travel restrictions. He says the Spanish Club trip to Costa Rica currently in July is still on, and the district will continue to monitor the situation. Barber notes there are now no travel restrictions within the United States, and the band people heading to Florida in two-weeks is still a go. “Currently, they’re not limiting that travel,” said Barber. “This is a fluid situation with the Governor reporting three cases from people traveling back from overseas. If that changes, we’ll have to decide at that time.”
Barber says Cass County has committed individuals in Public Health and Emergency Management. “We want to stay the course and follow the recommendation of Iowa Public Health,” said explained Barber. “We have a great relationship with Cass County and Cass County Emergency Management. We are and will continue to converse with them and make decisions based on a team approach.”
Barber says it’s their goal to continue to inform staff and parents to ensure everyone is in the know if recommendations change.
